Showreel 95 is a screen recorder and editor for Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 15 or later. The interface looks like Windows 95. The app runs on macOS.
Screen Recording captures your chosen screen or window. Camera and Microphone are needed only when you select those sources. Accessibility is used for shortcut overlays. Speech Recognition is used for optional captions; caption recognition runs on this Mac. You can change permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
New recordings are saved in Movies/Showreel 95 by default. Change the folder in Tools > Preferences. A .showreel project contains the recording and edits. Keep the entire project when moving it to another Mac. Imported music is copied into the project when saved.
Save with Command+S. Autosave runs every 30 seconds for projects that already have a saved bundle, unless you turn it off. Use Save As to keep a separate version.
MP4 makes a compressed video. ProRes creates a larger MOV for editing. GIF is an animation without audio. Captions require a microphone track and an on-device speech language supported by macOS. Review captions before exporting.
The classic sounds are enabled. Use View > Windows 95 Sounds to turn them off. Help > Keyboard Shortcuts lists the available commands. Command+K opens the command menu.
If a recording is black, check Screen Recording permission, then restart Showreel 95. If a microphone is silent, check the selected device and its permission. If export fails, check free disk space and try a different destination folder. Keep the project so you can retry.
